Hi! My father has given me two works by the Mallorquin artist Pere Quetglas Ferrer, AKA XAM (b. 1915, d. 2001) and has told me to either keep or sell them. I have a sentimental fondness for them, but I need the money more...that is IF they are indeed worth something. I assume they are. Ferrer seems to have been well known, had a retrospective in Mallorca after his passing and...had a street named after him in Mallorca.
The two pieces I have were picked up by my father when he was stationed in the Mediterranean during the '50s. The works are small/moderate sized and framed--he thinks them to be watercolor, but upon further inspection I suspect gouache or multiple-media. I'm sure they had titles once. My father named one "quelque chose," which is cute but decidedly unhelpful. Both are clearly signed "Xam" and I have close-up photos of the signatures as well as the aforementioned works.
I really need to have these pieces appraised, but am hesitant because I don't really have the money to pay an appraiser unless I'm fairly certain I can at least cover the cost of the appraisal in return. Does anybody have any ideas? I can provide photos if it would help. Thanks so much!
